WW2 Shipwrecks

The Ghost Fleet of Truk Lagoon

Diving in Truk Lagoon is an adventure you will never forget. Known as the world’s best shipwreck destination, WWII wrecks are scattered across 77 square miles. The wrecks are covered with life. There are over 300 varieties of hard and soft corals. On the outer reef you'll find mountains of coral that stretch as far as the eye can see, and drops off into the abyss. Here it is not unusual to see pelagic sharks.

Dive Site Highlights

Fujikawa Maru: One of the most iconic wrecks in the lagoon. The Fujikawa Maru sits upright in relatively shallow water, making it accessible to many divers. Inside, you’ll find aircraft parts, including Zero fighter planes, along with engine rooms and cargo holds covered in soft corals.

Shinkoku Maru: The Shinkoku Maru is famous for its stunning coral growth and atmospheric engine room. It was a fleet oiler, and its medical bay still contains eerie remnants like bathtubs and medical supplies. Great visibility and marine life make it a favorite.

San Francisco Maru: Often called the “million-dollar wreck,” the San Francisco Maru lies deeper than many others. Its cargo includes tanks, trucks, mines, and bombs still clearly visible in the holds—perfect for experienced or technical divers.

Hoki Maru:The Hoki Maru is a large freighter resting on its side. It carried construction equipment, including bulldozers and trucks. The wreck is wide open and well-lit, making it easier to explore than tighter wreck penetrations.

Heian Maru:At over 150 meters long, the Heian Maru is one of the largest wrecks in the lagoon. It served as a submarine tender, and you can still see torpedoes in its cargo holds. Penetration dives here are extensive and complex.
